On 30 December 2025 US forces struck a convoy of three small boats in the eastern Pacific, killing three men on the first boat. Southern Command later confirmed that eight men from the other two boats 'abandoned their vessels, jumping overboard and distancing themselves before follow-on engagements sank their respective vessels'. The Coast Guard search was suspended without recovering anyone, and Airwars found the only search aircraft reached the area 45 hours after Southern Command reported people in the water, in nine-foot seas and 40-knot winds. Southern Command first reported only three deaths. In a September 2026 briefing note, the UN Special Rapporteur on counter-terrorism and human rights found 'reasonable grounds to believe' that the campaign's attacks constituted crimes against humanity of murder.
