US Resumes Large-Scale Iran Strikes, Trump Vows to Hit 'Much Harder' and Rejects Iran's Truce Offer as Senate Falls One Vote Short of Ending the War (September 2026)

After a month-long lull, the US struck Iran's Larak Island on August 30, 2026, and on September 1 launched what Trump called 'large and powerful' strikes on air defense, radar, maritime, mine-laying and communications sites along Iran's coast, from Sirik and Bandar Abbas to Ahvaz and Asaluyeh. Iran's health minister reported 18 killed and 108 wounded that day, including victims of a strike on a wedding in Sirik. Trump said Iran 'will be hit again at a much harder and higher level' and that he preferred 'almost total control of the Hormuz Strait' to negotiations. The House voted 220–204 on September 15 to end US hostilities; on September 24 the Senate rejected the House measure 49–50 — the 14th Senate war powers vote since February. On September 26 Trump rejected an Iranian seven-day roadmap to reopen the strait and end the war, saying Iran was 'losing so badly.'

CDC leaves Pennsylvania deaths off national dashboard

The CDC declines to include the Pennsylvania deaths in its official measles count, saying available information does not establish whether measles caused or contributed to them.
