DC Guard deployment extended to January 2029 at an estimated $1.4 billion

A Defense Department estimate provided to Congress puts the cost of keeping an average of 2,500 Guard members in Washington through January 20, 2029 at about $1.4 billion for fiscal years 2027-2029. About 4,600 personnel from DC and 23 states and territories were deployed as of late July (PBS NewsHour/AP).
