Public Integrity Section down from 36 lawyers to 2

NOTUS reports that the DOJ Public Integrity Section has gone from 36 full-time lawyers in January 2025 to two, and has lost all but one of more than a dozen paralegals. The requirement that U.S. attorneys consult the section on campaign-finance, patronage and election-corruption cases was suspended in June 2025, and, as The New York Times reported in May 2025, the FBI's elite public corruption squad was shut down. DOJ says it 'takes public corruption seriously'.
