    On January 25, 2025, President Trump said he wanted Egypt and Jordan to take in Palestinians from Gaza so as to 'just clean out' the territory, and on February 4, 2025, he said the US would 'take over' Gaza and redevelop it as 'the Riviera of the Middle East.' The UN Secretary-General, Arab League, Palestinian Authority, and international law experts called the proposal ethnic cleansing. Egypt, Jordan, and all Arab states categorically rejected it.
