Illegal National Guard Deployments to Los Angeles and Attempted Deployment to Chicago
The administration deployed 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to Los Angeles without the governor's consent, and attempted to send Texas National Guard troops to Chicago. A federal judge ruled the Los Angeles deployment unlawful, and the Supreme Court declined to stay an order blocking the Illinois deployment, finding the government had not identified a source of authority.
